报告人简介

    Dr. Zhanjiang (John) Liu is currently the Associate Vice President for Research and 

Associate Provost at Auburn University. Prior to this position, he served as Associate

 Dean for Research for the College of Agriculture, and Assistant Director for the Alabama 

Agricultural Experiment Station 2007-2013. He received his B.S. in 1981  in Plant Pathology

 and Entomology from Northwest Agricultural University in China, M.S. in 1985 in Plant 

Pathology from the University of Minnesota, and Ph.D. in 1989 in Molecular and Cellular Biology

 from the University of Minnesota. He completed  his postdoctoral training at the University   

of Minnesota Medical School. He worked as R&D Director for National Biosciences 1993-1994. 

Since 1995, Dr. Liu has been on the faculty at Auburn University, rising to the level of full 

professor in 2003. He obtained the Alumni Professorship in 2002 and received the Creative 

Research  and  Scholarship Award  from Auburn University in 2007, and received USDA recognition for his

 outstanding contributions to  Aquaculture Genomics. Dr. Liu is a Fellow of the American Association

 for the Advancement of Science (AAAS). He is serving as  the Aquaculture Coordinator 

for the USDA National Animal Genome Project, the Editor for Marine Biotechnology, and Associate

 Editor for BMC Genomics, and on editorial board for  Animal Biotechnology and Reviews in Aquaculture. 

 Dr. Liu has served on numerous national and international grant review panels including USDA,

 NSF, NIH, and NOAA Sea Grant.He is a board member for the Advisory Panel for the Oceans and

 Human Health Initiative of the US Department of Commerce. Dr. Liu has obtained over $44 

million in grants and contracts. He has published over 230 peer reviewed journal articles and 

book chapters, and has published three books. He has served in over 100 graduate committees

 including serving as major professor for over 50 Ph.D. students. He has trained over 50

 postdoctoral fellows and visiting scholars from all over the world.  He works closely with 

the catfish   industry and received the Outstanding  Research Award from the Alabama Catfish Industry.
