Traditional shell model cannot be used to describe triaxial heavy nuclei because of the
dimension explosion. The reflection asymmetric shell model (RASM) has been developed
to describe heavy octupole deformed nuclei. The shell model space is formed by the set
of basis which are obtained by both angular momentum and parity projection from
octupole deformed states. The RASM theory has been used successfully to describe
many important modes in nuclei where reflection and rotation symmetries are broken.
The theory hasreproduced experimental data very well.
